Garrison Excelsior is part of the 501st Legion of Imperial Stormtroopers, a professional costuming group that takes great joy out of constructing movie accurate costumes from the Star Wars Universe. Our unit of the legion covers Upstate NY (the shaded area of the map below.)
Our purpose is to bring fun and joy to the multitudes of Star Wars fans throughout the world, while also introducing the world of Star Wars to a whole new generation, with the release of the new Star Wars movies.

The members of Garrison Excelsior are the regional representatives of the global Star Wars costuming group known as the 501st Legion of Imperial Stormtroopers. Through group discussions and organized appearances, we strive to memorialize the Star Wars films and create an exciting atmosphere to fans and the general public. Members of the garrison promote unity, encourage the creativity of the art of costume making, assist charities by promoting and participating in their events, wear the detailed costumes at public appearances, and to strive EVER UPWARD

In an inspiring act of gratitude for countless hours of costumed volunteerism, DK Publishing (responsible for the popular Star Wars "Visual Dictionary" book series) announced a $50,000 children's book donation on behalf of the 501st Legion. More than 7,000 new, full-color reference books are being distributed to The Boys and Girls Clubs of America with help from The Today Show Charitable Foundation, Inc. "We wanted to thank the 501st Legion in a big way," said DK's Associate Director of Publicity, Rachel Kempster. “We know that children’s charities are near and dear to hearts of all 501st volunteers." Based upon the success of last year's LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary events, fans can look forward to more DK/501st collaborations this year!

I am happy to announce the Trooper of the Month for February 2010: Nicky Blum DZ8397 of Garrison Excelsior. Nicky was a founding member of her Garrison and has played a crucial role in the Legion serving as a cabinet officer for last term and this term, fielding incoming emails to the Legion for events and feedback, and helping with the podcasts just to name a few of her jobs. If you're in the Legion, then at some point or another you've likely been helped by Nicky directly or indirectly. Congratulations to Nicky!
